Knowledge: You are not alone.

71% of Utahns say politicians ‘ignore the will of voters,’ survey finds

September 12, 2024 (Utah Public Radio)

A new brief by the Utah Foundation found that 71% of Utah voters feel state politicians ignore the will of the people in favor of special interests.

Every year, the Utah Foundation surveys Utah voters on what issues are most important to them through the Utah Priorities Project. This year, politicians listening to voters was the second-highest concern behind housing affordability.

In a follow-up brief released on Wednesday, the project asked whether Utah voters feel listened to, looking for differences in party and religiosity.

Overall, 71% of respondents either somewhat or strongly believed that Utah politicians are too beholden to business, religious, or other special interests, and ignore the will of voters.

The US House has been on vacation for 10 days more than they have been in session, at great taxpayer expense (almost 9 million dollars for the 41 days since last vote).

Current Count:

147 days not in DC thru Oct 31, 2025

I don't know how many times I need to write this, but Utah's Senator Mike Lee is at it again, trying to do away with your public land. His thoughtful analysis of why we don't need public land this time? Border security, and why we need to absolutely do away with the Wilderness Act in order to do so.

ACTION ITEMS: Nov 4th election must be a blue wave!

Help make Nov 4th election into a blue wave election by

1) voting locally and 2) volunteering to phone bank in key states

DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU AND 1-5 dozen friends could potentially swing a local election?

The most popular candidate won with only ~3500 votes in Logan's Council election in 2023!?!?!

YOU can help by VOTING in your LOCAL municipal elections

and encouraging others to do the same.

As few as ten to twenty voters can have a LARGE impact on elections for local leaders.

PLEASE MAKE TIME TO VOTE THOUGHTFULLY!

It really matters.

  • Find out where your candidates stand on issues that matter to democracy and to you by using vote411.org

  • Candidates without statements on vote411.org may not be serious ones

  • Urge your friends and neighbors to vote also, and let them know why you favor certain candidates.

  • Local elections are decided by a small number of the voters.  For example, in 2023 these were the vote totals in Logan, Utah.

Results for Logan from the Herald
Journal
Mark A. Anderson: 3,467 votes.     Mike Johnson: 2,909.      Jeannie F. Simmonds: 2,427.    Joe Needham: 2,411.    Katie Lee Koven: 2,403.    Erin Bennett: 1,083

  •  Changing the minds of only 8-12 voters  would have changed Logan City Council's make up in 2023.

  • The most popular candidate in Logan City council won with fewer than 3500 votes in 2023.
  • Pro-democracy candidates are vital at all levels of government.

  • If we can activate tens to hundreds of like-minded people to vote in local elections, we may be able to build a government that is more responsive to the needs to the people in our community.
Vote for River-friendly candidate in Logan, North Logan and Hyde Park.
Alanna Nafziger is the River-Friendly and citizen-friendly mayoral candidate in Logan.
You can register and vote ON election day.
Return mail ballots to drop off boxes.
Mailed ballots are unlikely to be counted-- if you mail them now.

Help protect voting rights in Pennsylvania

You can help by volunteering at a phone bank in PA.  We hear it is fun and rewarding!

Urge democratic voters to turn out and vote for their law-abiding Supreme Court Judges with phone banking from home

Pennsylvania Supreme Court race is critical to protect voting rights from a billionaire who is trying to subvert the election.  (SOUND FAMILIAR?)

STOP THE SUPER-RICH from buying themselves:

    special treatment,

    buying the courts,

    buying elections, and

from taking essentials from ALL of us.

Please consider being a volunteer on a phone bank,
Democracy hangs in the balance.
