Subject: Critical funding for Utah Public Radio remains at risk.

Everyone who cares about truth, community, and democracy,

Yesterday, President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order directing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and other federal agencies to halt funding to NPR and PBS “to the maximum extent allowed by law.” The order also targets indirect support, prohibiting local public media stations and other CPB grant recipients from using federal funds to support NPR or PBS.

The order, which is likely to be challenged in court, does not defund public media as a whole and does not rescind previously allocated funds to stations. However, the potential for defunding or rescission remains.

Critical funding for Utah Public Radio remains at risk.

Please make an emergency donation today. Your sustained support will keep our programs continuing without interruption during this turbulent moment.

If upheld, this executive order would jeopardize critical support for Utah Public Radio and stations like it. Everything we do is therefore at potential risk: local journalism, including our partnership with The Salt Lake Tribune, educational programming like Wild About Utah and Behind the Headlines, and our infrastructure, including that which brings national news and shows to our community and supports the Emergency Alert System.

If our clear and unbiased reporting and storytelling matter to you, the most important thing you can do right now is to support Utah Public Radio with a
monthly donation or additional gift.

While federal support only makes up 15% of UPR’s budget, that translates into a funding gap of $200,000 that we would have to make up in order to continue the programming you and our community rely on.

Your generous donation today will help Utah Public Radio stay strong and independent in this uncertain time. No matter what happens in Washington, we remain committed to you.

Whether you’ve been with us for years or are considering your first gift, now is the time. Your support is what stands between public media and an uncertain future.
