LAUNCH of We.the.People.Cache Valley blog

Friends and Neighbors,

Thank you for helping to make our local Hands Off Rally a major success.

We had coverage in the press and there was a lot of positive feedback from particpants, offers of help and more.

I paste our press release into this post for you along with a link it it:

More than 500 peaceful protesters in Logan, Utah gather

to declare “Hands Off!” to Trump and Musk

April 5 was the single largest day of action against

the second Trump administration

Press Requests Jim Evans jpevans@protonmail.com

Logan, Utah - On Saturday, April 5, approximately 500 Cache Valley and northern

Utah residents took to the open space in front of the Historic Cache County courthouse

as part of a nationwide day of peaceful protest, the largest single day of action

since Donald Trump was sworn in for a second term. Organized by the umbrella group

HandsOff! participants called on Trump and Elon Musk to take their hands off the

programs citizens of Cache Valley and Utah rely on. These passionate calls were echoed

at over 1300 events from across the nation.

With Trump and congressional Republicans doubling down on their agenda to gut

essential services, everyday people at the Cache Valley event sent clear messages

in several dozen short speeches, by hand-writing comments to share with their

elected officials, and in protest signs expressing opposition to the harmful actions

of the Trump administration.  Hands Off our healthcare, Hands Off our

Social Security, Hands Off our civil rights, Hands Off our Veterans benefits,

Hands Off our freedoms, Hands Off education, and Hands Off our

public lands.

Hundreds rallied to underscore the growing and terrifying real-life consequences

of these policies and to show how our communities are fighting back. Dozens of

planned and impromptu speakers discussed topics including cuts to the Veterans

programs for suicide prevention, the damage occuring from reduction of public

health programs, support for Ukraine, Canada, and our European allies, support

for the rights of LGBTQ people, and threats to our public lands.

Speakers discussed new efforts to develop community engagement, Cache Valley

Mutual Aid, protecting the rights of our teachers, firefighters and nurses, and the

importance of communicating with elected officials.

People attending the rally were able to post more than 240 notes of concern on

note boards set up throughout the venue. Their messages included:

YOUR Neighbors are concerned about:

“ Arrests, detention, and deportations-all without due process, without credible

accusation of criminal activity

Unfair tariffs that are costing trillions of dollars to American and the global economy

Dismantling of the Department of Education, USAID, mass terminations

at Veterans Affairs

Tax Breaks for Billionaires

Feckless Republican politicians - who are complicit in the damage to America’s

democracy, destruction of our institutions, and are helping to transfer more

wealth to the super-rich

Threats to our allies in Canada, Mexico, Denmark, Greenland, etc. etc. “

“My kids’ future and freedoms!”

“The unbelievably rapid demise of our Democratic Institutions. “

OUR WORRIES:

“ Free Speech must be protected!

  Trying to erase DEI achievements

STOP tax cuts for billionaires

Immigration→ leave people who are hard working immigrants ALONE

Firing of federal workforce who work in the forest service, public health,

healthcare, and provide food for poor children

Don’t vilify transgender people

Get rid of Musk”

“ I’m concerned that President Trump is breaking U.S. laws every day and

there is NO consequence.  People’s rights of all kinds are being eliminated.

Our benefits are in danger- social security, health care, education, Veterans care,

and more. “

This protest follows other signs of discontent among many Utahns. HandsOFF

Cache Valley was one of ten events in Utah. There were rallies in every state,

and several foreign countries. People are organizing in communities, making it

clear to all elected officials that they need to stand with them against corrupt

and unelected billionaires.

this video, and other images,  are available, on request.
